Frequently Asked Questions About Our
Dallas Fence Company & Services
Q. Why choose cedar fence?
A. Fancy Fence of Dallas recommends using cedar pickets if you are
seeking a long-term fence solution. Cedar has natural oils and acids
in the wood that make it undesirable to most insects. Thus, cedar is
naturally insect and rot resistant. Cedar is also non-toxic and safe
to handle. It's perfectly suited to ground contact applications
without the use of chemicals. Untreated, white cedar generally lasts
15 to 25 years. Cedar also warps less and has fewer knots than
spruce or pine fences.
Q. Does staining increase the life of a wood fence?
A. Staining or weatherproofing your fence protects the natural oils
and fibers in the wood. Without the protection of the stain/sealer,
overtime the wood will turn grey as the oils are extracted out by
the sun and rain.
Q. What type of stain do you use?
A. There are three different types of Stains on the market that are
commonly used to treat Fences, Decks, Arbors and other outdoor
wooden structures: Transparent, Semi-Transparent and Solid Stain.
Transparent products show all of the natural grain, but typically
need to be applied yearly for full effectiveness. They repel water,
but don't protect well against the harmful UV rays of the sun.
Semi-Transparent stain allows the wood grain to show through it and
protect against water, but typically will need to be re-applied
every two years. Solid treatments hide the wood grain, but last the
longest and offer the best protection from moisture and UV rays.
Fancy Fence uses contractor grade semi-transparent stain. Semi
transparent is the most popular stain type used in the Dallas area.
Q. What about all of those underground wires and cables?
A. Before starting work, Fancy Fence of Dallas will contact Dig Tess.
In turn, they will contact their facility operating members. Each
member will send a representative out from each utility company to
locate and mark their underground utility lines and wires on the
property. NOTE: Sprinkler lines are not marked by Dig Tess,
Therefore it is the homeowners responsibility to point out where the
sprinkler heads and lines are on the property.

fence is six or eight feet tall. Front yard fencing is either three
or four feet tall.
Q. How high can I build my fence?
A. City and HOA fence height requirements may vary depending on
where you live. Fancy Fence of Dallas recommends checking with your
local HOA to see what the maximum Fence height requirements are
allowed then verify this with the city.
Q. My neighbor is putting up a new fence on our shared property
line. How much input am I allowed?
A. If the fence line is wholly on their property, you don't have any
legal say-so in the type, material, height, etc., of the new fence.
It helps to have an open dialog with your neighbors before hand,
however, so maybe this can be discussed amicably.
Q. What is the recommended post spacing for 8 foot and 6 foot
fences?
A. Fancy Fence of Dallas spaces the posts every six feet when
constructing an eight foot fence. When constructing a six foot fence
the posts are spaced every eight feet. Fence posts are dug using an
earth auger and post hold diggers. The posts are placed 2.5 feet
